About Me

Niin Anishinaabe inini. Benjamin Piabiko-kabo n’dizhnikas. Makwa dodem niin da’ow. Tootinaowaziibeeng n’doondsay.

I am Anishinaabe and my name is Benjamin Ironstand. I am a member of the Bear clan and my home community is Tootinaowaziibeeng First Nation in Manitoba. I am a practicing multi-disciplinary artist. My focuses include: visual art, performance, and traditional arts such as beading and quillwork, drum making, and bow making. I am also a proud husband and hunter.

I currently work at the First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC) in BC as the Jurisdiction Communications Coordinator to support First Nations in BC negotiate sectoral self-government agreements in education with Canada and BC. I graduated from the First Nations University of Canada with a bachelor of Indigenous Education degree and as valedictorian.

The vision is to build capacity within our Indigenous communities to support wellbeing. To reclaim our identities and re-empower ourselves to be healthy, self-sustaining communities with the capacity to grow and positively help others.
